Current Reflection
Moving Into a New
Year
While taking a New Years day walk with
our youngest daughter, and the dog, a conversation began on what this new year might hold. Lucy reported that a boy in her class had announced
that something bad always happens in a year that ends with a 9. Its interesting that a third grader could be
so jaded by such negative thinking, but he was likely simply repeating what hed
overheard.
Not wanting
our daughter to buy into such an outlook I was quick to disagree. While bad things do occur in most years (no matter
the number they end with) that was no reason to assume the worst of this coming year. So I offered some observations of good things that
have or will happen in a year that ends in 9. For
example, I pointed out that Lucy was born in a year that ended in 9, and how that was such
a good thing for our family. Thats
right, she agreed, in fact that year had three 9s in it
1999. I also shared that this year, with
its 9, would mark her parents 25th wedding anniversary. Encouraged, we then did some further speculating
on just what else the new year ending in 9 and all might hold for our family
and friends.......more |
