Welcome to the web site of First Baptist Church of Columbus.  If this is your first time to visit, we hope you'll find the site helpful in getting acquainted with First Baptist.  Once you've gotten acquainted, we hope you'll worship with us soon in order to meet us personally.  We're a friendly bunch of people eager to know you and fellowship with you.

Our doors are open to all, regardless of where one is on his or her spiritual journey.  Together we're an active, involved, and growing group of believers and seekers.  And our desire is to reach out with God's love to all people and help them find and follow Jesus Christ.

We're glad you found us and we look forward to your personal visit soon.

Current Reflection

Moving Into a New Year

While taking a New Year’s day walk with our youngest daughter, and the dog, a conversation began on what this new year might hold.  Lucy reported that a boy in her class had announced that something bad always happens in a year that ends with a 9.  It’s interesting that a third grader could be so jaded by such negative thinking, but he was likely simply repeating what he’d overheard.

Not wanting our daughter to buy into such an outlook I was quick to disagree.  While bad things do occur in most years (no matter the number they end with) that was no reason to assume the worst of this coming year.  So I offered some observations of good things that have or will happen in a year that ends in 9.  For example, I pointed out that Lucy was born in a year that ended in 9, and how that was such a good thing for our family.  “That’s right,” she agreed, “in fact that year had three 9’s in it – 1999.”  I also shared that this year, with its 9, would mark her parent’s 25th wedding anniversary.   Encouraged, we then did some further speculating on just what else the new year – ending in 9 and all – might hold for our family and friends.......more
